Installation of replacement heat exchanger

Davis Welding and Fabrication managed the installation of a replacement heat exchanger for a boutique brewer in Brisbane.

Client:

Sealegs Brewing Brisbane

Project description:

Installation of replacement heat exchanger

What were the challenges?

The client needed to replace their existing heat exchanger as it was no longer meeting their requirements. The new unit was a different size and the pipe connections were positioned differently meaning all the connecting pipe work needed to be modified to allow connection to the new heat exchanger.

The Client had various other smaller issues that needed addressing to improve safety, productivity and usability. Examples of these issues were, installing brackets to unsupported pipework, design and install of more robust tank lid hinge, replacement of flexible hoses with permanent stainless pipes.

How did Davis Welding and Fabrication solve these challenges?

We performed a site visit and went over all the issues with the client. The brewing process had to be offline while the modifications were made. It was critical that this downtime was minimised. Some components were made prior to reduce install time onsite.

We arranged a 2-3 day window to complete the work. We swiftly removed the old equipment to make way for the installation of the replacement heat exchanger. We then measured and fabricated the connecting pipework. All joints were cut using an orbital tube cutting machine to ensure perfectly square, burr free edges. All joins were purge welded to maintain a sanitary joint.

Project result

The work was completed in 2 long days. It represents a large improvement to the clients brewing system.
