Project description:

Our client required a large skid to mount a gearbox to. The skid consisted of steel plates ranging from 6 to 20mm thick. The design was already drawn up by the client, and we were more than happy to construct the skid according to their plans. The skid will be used in an underground mine to mount a large gearbox.

What were the challenges?

Although the size was only 1.8m 1.8m x 0.4m the skid weighed in at 1200kg and care needed to be taken manoeuvring it inside the workshop to avoid a potential accident. The skid had many parts, some with holes that needed to be carefully manufactured and assembled.

How did Davis Welding and Fabrication solve these challenges?   

We used a combination of oxy/acetylene and plasma cutting techniques to prepare the required plates. Piece by piece it was assembled and carefully rotated or turned over ensuring the required areas were welded accordingly.

Project result

Once assembled the skid is certainly a solid piece of equipment and providing a firm base for the client’s gearbox.
